Ok, here is my first cooking post. I attempted to make Rachel Ray's Winter Greens Spaghetti for dinner tonight, but I was missing several key ingredients, namely the "greens." I needed spinach, arugla and escarole (I think....the cookbook is downstairs in the kitchen and I am too lazy to go get it), so I decided to head to Henry's instead of my very near-by and inexpensive Food-4-Less. Whenever I can't find what I need at F4L, I go to Henry's, who pretty much always has what I want.
Not today. Of the 3 greens I needed, they only had spinach. Great. I decided to sub in kale and endive instead. I bought what I needed, as well as some bosc pears that I didn't need, but wanted and went home.
The kale was bitter. I had no idea what kale tasted like, but i figured, "hey, it's green and leafy, why not use it as a substitute?" Yeah, not so good. The spaghetti (which I think she be renamed spaghetti salad) tasted ok, but the kale lent it a slightly bitter taste. The recipe is probably great with the actual ingredients, so I will have to try it again another time. My husband just smiled when I asked him what he thought. He is too sweet and rarely tells me if he doesn't like my cooking...I usually have to apply force if I want to hear his negative review. :)
I took pictures which I will post later....once I learn how that is.
PS. I watched the new show "The City" tonight . (The MTV spinoff of my fav show, "The Hills") Not as good as "The Hills" and Olivia seems like a royal b i t c h, but I do love Whitney.
